3 connections to the Common Core State Standards

R3 - Analyze how and why individuals, events, and ideas develop and interact over the course of a text.  - Moscow Nights will teach the students the words, melodies, and rhythms of a Russian song, demonstrating the development and interaction of the complete Russian song.

SL2 – Integrate and evaluate information presented in diverse media and formats, including visually, quantitatively, and orally.  Moscow Nights will teach the students Russian words throughout the performance by speaking them on stage.  The students will listen, repeat and explore the different sounds and nuances of the Russian language through the interaction of shouts and songs.

L3 - Apply knowledge of language to understand how language functions in different contexts, to make effective choices for meaning or style, and to comprehend more fully when reading or listening.  Moscow Nights will have pre and post-performance activities for the students. This will include writing the Cyrillic alphabet and comparing similar words and letters from the English language and alphabet.

Eliot Elementary School, Needham, MA

Moscow Nights completed their performance earlier today at Jones Dairy Elementary School. Feedback from myself and some of the teachers there): We thought it was a GREAT show with wonderful, captivating songs. The performance itself had a good flow and appropriate-for-the-age (3rd through 5th grade) information about Russia. The kids seemed to really get into it as the performance progressed, clapping and moving along without prompting from Moscow Nights or the teachers.
